The full dope on iOS 4.1

ImageLast week's announcements from Apple about plans for iOS 4.1 and it's imminent release got everyone thinking about what's in store for iPhone owners all over the world. The free update will fix a number of bugs (including the persistent proximity sensor issues), but will also bring a whole lot of cool new features. For instance, iPhone 4 users will get to make good use of that high definition camera with iOS 4.1 loaded as well as being able to upload high def video over wifi.

RTS Gameboard wants to let you control Starcraft II from your iPhone/IPad

An interesting and potentially cool (or lame) bit of news on an emerging tech that's due on the iPhone and iPad soon: RTS Gameboard is an app which allows you to control Starcraft II from your Apple mobile device. Log in to the server, set your game up, but put the mouse and keyboard aside and control the action from your Apple mobile device. The whole thing is unofficial, so it's hard to say whether it'll get past Blizzard's lawyers. More to the point, the image you see here of the UI is, reportedly, just a mock up...

MacGamer talks about the iPad's competition

News imageToday, MacGamer takes a look at what's in store for the new crop of tables that are popping up and challenging the iPad's supremacy in the market. Can Apple be beaten and have its crown stolen from them? Yes, they sure can. Will it happen? No. No it won't.

Three reasons why the iPad's competition is doomed (for now)

Feature Preview

The iPad made a brilliant debut early in 2010, much to the surprise of the tech industry (and maybe even Apple). The little gadget from Cupertino with the iPhone interface has sold well into the millions and left all competition at the starting gate.

Seg offers iPad/iphone games for sale

ImageGood news: Sega is offering a Back to School sale on their iPhone and iPad games. As you know, school and education are all about playing portable video games. Any teacher will tell you that.

What's nice is that the price discounts are pretty decent and lets you save a few bucks for those textbooks you aren't really going to read. Here's a list for your consideration:

Super Monkey Ball 1 $1.99

Super Monkey Ball 2 $2.99

Square Enix's Chaos Rings released for iPad

A new offering for the iPad came today from legendary game developers Square Enix in the forum of Chaos Rings. There's already a version on the go for the iPhone, but a higher-resolution version (that also costs more) is available for the iPad. I personally think a video is with a thousand words, so without further ado...

iPad and iPhone PDF Vulnerability Patched

Apple has patched a recently exposed vulnerability in the iPhone and iPad iOSes (4.0.2 and 3.2.2, respectively). The vulnerability, which used a font corruption problem in the way that iOS reads PDFs, came to the public's attention when a website used the exploit to let users "jailbreak" their devices (personally, I think if you knowingly let a website access your phone and fool with the operating system, you are an idiot). The same exploit can be used to make the device insecure.

Flick Fishing for iPad is Free!

ImageThe story is short and sweet: Freeverse let it be known today that Flick Fishing, the game of whipping your ipad around so you can catch fish with it, is free... and you can go grab it here. "Aww, fishing? Who cares" might be going through your head right now (don't lie... yes it is), but this game is actually pretty nifty: Great graphics and a simple, intuitive interface and a variety of fish and locations where you can get them.

Is there a new iPad on the way?

News imageIf you're like me, it seems as though the iPad just showed up in the world yesterday... but rumors already point to a possible rev of the iPad which would see an increase in both power and size. According to Digitimes, the next generation of iPad will sport a 9.7 inch screen and an ARM Cortex-A9-based processor as well as 512 MB of RAM. The new rev would, supposedly, show up in the first quarter of 2011.
